TimeSplitters series is by far one of the coolest. Instead of focusing on cool shooter theme, such as science fiction, modern or old west, Time splitters did something really cool - took all of these genres, and wrapped them in great time-travel game. Despite nearly universal recognition of the fulfillment, but the series has remained untouched for nearly seven years.
Unfortunately for Free Radical, now subsidiary of the giant shooter Cytec, publishers are not only in the revival of an old franchise interest. But in an interview with videogamer.com, Cytec CEO Civet Yearly made pretty bold statement regarding the franchise:
Time Splitters Grace runs on, he said, For those not familiar with your name, Grace Cytec’s social gaming platform that will be used for their brave new regime after the release of Crisis 3 to play freely.
Given that the Crisis series has been setting benchmarks for the elite and expensive PC graphics engines and called the announcement unexpected is and understatement identified long.
According to Yearly, Cytec believes that free-to-play is the future of gaming revenues, and provides an AAA experience is the best way to take full advantage of the zero-dollar price point. With the unveiling of the War face, Cytec is hoping to create new generation of high-quality games that can run from high to reveal low-end PCs.
While Cytec known as the company, switch to fermium is certainly surprising, it does not; the formula cannot work for shooters. Both Backlights: Retribution and Tribes: Ascension was fantastic high-end FPS products that dragged free entry.
However, can still free-to-play provide high quality single-player adventure Time Splitters, while sporting solid co-op and multiplayer mode, had quirky and endearing act that set it apart from some other blunt shooters of his time. Is there correct way to have solid history, without implementing the immersion by interruptions for micro-transactions.
It is question that remains to be answered, but it will be interesting to see what Cytec does the future regardless of Grace. Either way, it's just nice to hear that Cytec is at least a little love into what used to be one of the best shooters around.
